Shetland Flight Information Notification Scheme

Information about the scheme

The Shetland Flight Information Notification Scheme is an email group where you can notify other airspace users of your intended drone, model aircraft, paraglider or microlight flights. The scheme is entirely voluntary, however the more that join the scheme the safer our airspace in Shetland will be.

The notification process is simple, you send an email to the scheme email address in advance of your flight which will be seen by the ATC units at Aberdeen, Sumburgh and Tingwall, as well as the HMCG helicopter crews, the Airtask Islander crews and other drone or paraglider / microlight pilots. ATC can tell other aircraft of drone flights in the area, and the helicopter and Islander crews can avoid the area your flying (if possible).

If you fly drones, model aircraft, paragliders or other non-radio aircraft then please join the scheme. It's a simple process, send and email to dronesafety@shetland-flyer.co.uk to join and you'll be added to the group email list. We'll send you an email with the email address for flight notifications, and a suggested format for your flight information.

Please read the Privacy Notice so you understand how your personal data is used when joining the scheme.
